Oakland’s Public Square Panel Discussion
Writing Our History, Present and Future

California Humanities is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Swan’s Market in conjuction with East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) by hosting a panel discussion.

Swan’s Market has been a place of convergence for local people and businesses-- grocers, butchers, and eateries-- for 100 years and continues to be a place where people gather. Join us in exploring the concept of the public square in relation to Old Oakland.

Local community and civic leaders will discuss the importance of the public square to a thriving civil society—one with an active political discourse and strong community engagement. How do people create a sense of community in a changing neighborhood?

The panel will take place at California Humanities' offices located in Swan's Market, 2nd floor, reachable via elevators and stairwell near Housewive's Market Fish and Seafood.

Moderator: Jeremy Liu, Senior Fellow for Arts, Culture and Equitable Development at PolicyLink.
